Sing It Again
Our latest project, "Sing It Again"
is here and is doing extremely well!
This is the first project that Randy is
featured on and we think he did a superb
job. We went to Nashville to record
this one and had some of the finest
Nashville musicians to play on it, including
the renowned Gordon Mote on piano.
Bryan and Jeremy played on it as well and
had a blast recording the music tracks.
Produced by Louie and Susan Swift and
engineered by Howard Hibbett, "Sing It
Again" is quickly becoming one of our
best selling projects! They are
available at our concert table and will be
in our online store when it opens.

Lightning hits our sound equipment!
To most Nashville, TN residents, May 2, 2010
will be written down in history as the worst
flood in centuries. Everyone in the
area was affected by it in some form or
fashion. Even our studio engineer,
Howard Hibbett told me although he suffered
no damage to his home or studio, he was
trapped in his neighborhood by the flood
waters.
May 2, 2010 also went down in history for TKMQ.
As the storms moved through Nashville, they
swept through Graysville, AL where we were
singing that Sunday. We were at Mt.
Pisgah Baptist Church, pastored by our dear
friend Gene Shelton, singing at their
homecoming and noticed that the rain picked
up considerably. Arvil was looking out
the front doors while Kevin was singing "I
Won't Walk Without Jesus" and said,
"As soon as Kevin sang the part of the verse
that said 'Then teardrops came like rain a'fallin'', the rain really did started
falling outside!" But it was during
the second verse of that song when a bolt of
lightning hit somewhere behind the church
and ran all through our sound system.
It didn't knock the lights off nor did it
affect the monitors, so we didn't think
anything happened. We finished up the
song and that's when we realized something
bad had happened. Margaret Shelton
told us she saw blue sparks fly out of one
of our speakers and couldn't hear anything
after the lightning hit. Sure enough,
both of them were dead and so were our subs.
We turned our monitors around toward the
congregation and finished up the singing.
After a quick assessment of the situation
afterwards, the lightning hit both powered
house speakers and ran straight to the
crossover because the subs themselves were
working when Jeremy connected them straight
out of his bass amp. Our sub amp was
hit as well but we didn't discover it until
we set up for our next singing at Kilgore
Hardware's 50th anniversary two weeks later.
The speaker that flew sparks had a hole
blown out of the speaker cone inside, and
had a melted circuit board as well.
Jeremy and I discussed what to do if our
powered speakers couldn't be repaired, and
we both quickly came to the same conclusion;
Yamaha passive top cabinet speakers!
We already were using custom built Yamaha
18" subs and we both had used Yamaha tops
before, so going with a matched set of
speakers was the logical choice. We
presented our recommendations to the rest of
the guys and they liked it. And thanks
to Jeremy's connections at the music stores
in the Shoals area, we were able to get
everything we needed for less than half of
retail! There's something else we
purchased that we want to highly recommend
to everyone. Peavey has developed
technology in their power amps that will
produce 400W @ 8 ohms per channel and only
weighs 7 pounds. That's right, SEVEN
POUNDS! We have two of them in our
rack right now and it is so much lighter.
It really makes maneuvering it around on
stage a lot easier. We loved our old
QSC amp but we didn't love the weight, as
most of you who have handled audio equipment
can attest.
This is just another example of how Satan
tries to stop our ministry but we have
determined in our hearts and lives that it
will not happen, as long as we depend on the
Lord to see us through anything Satan throws
at us. And he is extremely creative in
what he comes up with too! Arvil even
said, "Out of the 41 years The King's
Messengers has been singing, this is the
first time lightning has blown up our
equipment!" To God be the glory!

New Project
Since Randy Toone joined us, we have wanted
to go back into the studio to capture the
vintage sound we have now, and to
commemorate our 40th anniversary. We
have talked to several record companies and
producers and we think we have found the
one. We will keep you informed of any
further developments.

Our 40th Anniversary Homecoming
We have
been singing the Gospel for 40 years, and
what an incredible journey it has been!
From our humble beginnings back in February
1969 to May 2009, God has been with us every
step of the way.
During our 40th
Anniversary Homecoming, Arvil and Alan were
both presented with appreciation awards for
their unwavering dedication and service for
40 years of singing the gospel. The
original King's Messengers were on hand to
sing a few of their well known songs.
Although Billy Smith has gone on to meet the
Lord, his voice was clearly heard through
Randy, making this year's reunion complete.
Danny Austin, Trillman Steele and former
bass guitarist Randy Cagle all made
an appearance, an event that hasn't happened
in several years. We have
determined to sing as long as the Lord will
let us, and we hope it will be a very long
time!

anniversary concert.

Randy Toone Joins The King's Messengers
Quartet
We are proud to announce the addition of our
new tenor singer, Randy Toone.
Whenever you hear him nobody would ever
guess that this is his first time singing
tenor - EVER! His first singing with
The King's Messengers was June 8, 2008.
Randy and Kevin sang years ago in another
quartet in which Randy sang lead. He
had been out of the singing world for quite
some time, and it wasn't until the spring of
2008 that the burning desire to sing again
rose up in him. For a long time he was
hesitant to approach us but when he did, it
was evident that God was working in his
life. To us, it was like Randy stepped
in from out of nowhere and made the tenor
position his own.
Arvil Nix comments, "Randy is such an
amazing singer! Whenever I hear him
sing, I can't get over how much he sounds
like our original tenor, Billy Smith."
Randy and his wife Katrina have two
children, Randall, Jr. (now deceased) and
Rachel, and reside in Caddo, AL.

Brand New Project
Our latest project "Change" has
been quite a departure from the TKMQ norm, but it is
holding it's own. This project features ten
relatively new songs to us, two of which
have never been recorded before. Songs
include "Waymaker" (featuring our
bass Kevin Hood) and "A Better Land"
written by a gifted songwriter, Doris May of
Nashville, TN. Alan sings the powerful
ballad, "Jesus Is His Name" which has
a contemporary feel. Arvil is featured
on "I Have No Doubt" and the
patriotic "In God We Still Trust"
introduced to the Country Music recording
industry by Diamond Rio. This song has
such an awesome message about our country's
freedom bestowed upon us by God that it has
crossed over into the Southern Gospel genre
of music.
"Change" was recorded and produced at
Lamp Music in Whitesburg, GA. Mike
and Rhonda Pillow were gracious enough to
put up with us each time we traveled out
there to record vocals, and made us feel at
home every time. Our thanks goes out
to them.
"Change" is now available at our
product table and in our online store
(coming soon).
